I feel that popular culture has shaped my life. I was home schooled from sixth grade all through high school and was raised in a nondenominational church. God, my family, and the Church have played a major role in the development of the person I am today.
Popular culture has influenced my every decision. My relationship with God has helped me choose friends wisely, choose appropriate clothing, choose wholesome music. I have been shaped, not only through God's word, but also through the Church. I follow the Church and the example of their lives. They are all such wonderful people and they strive to be better Christians. They have all made mistakes in their lives but they use those mistakes to help others overcome obstacles in their lives.
After reading "What is 'Popular Culture' ?", I can better understand it's definition. When I think of "Popular Culture" I would guess that it means whatever this generation may think is "cool." This paper does mention what today's generation has made "popular" through mass media products, but it is not the only definition. The definition of popular culture in my life is religion.
If I did not have God or the Church in my life I wouldn't be the person I am today. I'm very thankful for everything I have and for the influence popular culture has had on my life.

First off, Nightmare Before Christmas is by far my favorite movie. :):) You'll see me in my Nightmare Before Christmas sweatshirt and sometimes shoes almost every day.
Anyway, about the blog and pop culture: I completely understand life being shaped by God and the Church. They are such big parts of my life but I never thought of them as being popular culture. Now that you've got me thinking, though, the Church is definitely pop culture... and I'm glad you've made me think about that.
Interesting. Let me throw this out there - how do you feel technology has affected Christianity? Do you feel the Word can be spread quicker and in a more efficient way? Can technology be used on mission trips? How?
